EOSA Masterclass series - Building and Sustaining Open Source Impact

Building an open source business is not an easy endeavour. You need to separate between projects and products, users and customers, community and partners. The focus shifts from barricading IP to service excellence and technological leadership. You will face an uphill battle with conservative procurement officers, who are commonly mentally (or de facto) locked in. The market size, by consequence, limits margins and possibilities for investment into project sustainability. Fortunately, there are several excellent examples to follow, including Amandine Le Pape behind Element - creators of Matrix, Frank Karlitschek behind Nextcloud, Dries Buytaert behind Acquia, all part of the European Open Source Academy (EOSA).
For those of you considering starting or already working in an open source-oriented business, I strongly urge you to check out the Masterclass series just put out by Amandine. She walks through the fundamentals and challenges of building a sustainable open source business model. I also encourage corporates, academics, and procurement officers to review the material, as it provides essential input and training on how open source functions and can be adopted to promote both interoperability and sovereignty, innovation, and co-opetition.
